What we do

We create opportunities for people worldwide

The British Council is the UK's international organisation for educational opportunities and cultural relations.

British Council in the Philippines

We have been active in the Philippines since 1980.

We nurture mutually beneficial relationships with Filipinos by creating opportunities where they can meet and fulfill their aspirations in the fields of learning, society and culture.

We work with partners, both Filipino and British, to showcase UK excellence, innovation and creativity. We are a major channel for the UK's public diplomacy in the Philippines – putting the Filipino people in touch with people in the UK.

British Council Worldwide

We connect people worldwide and aim to buildd lasting relationships between the UK and other countries. We are represented in 109 countries worldwide.

Amongst other projects, in 2001-2002 alone we dealt with 1.8 million enquiries, and welcomed 6.6 million visitors in our libraries and information centres. We administered 840,000 professional and academic examinations, and helped more than 16,000 young people take part in exchange projects.

The British Council was founded in 1934. Visit our history site to discover how our mission has evolved since then, and find out about Equal Opportunities and Diversity (diversity/index.htm) in the British Council, our governance and status, as well as funding (funding.htm).
